In 2013, REI Systems implemented Oracle E-Business Suite as the ERP Financial backbone for a physician Electronic Medical Record Management System. The Electronic Medical Record Management System was built to capture outpatient clinical data to enable a paperless medical record, provide instant retrieval of patient and laboratory records for behavioral and mental health workflows, and to record appointments, medical summaries, and patient flow through the clinic.
The technical implementation used a layered J2EE architecture with an MVC pattern implemented via the Spring framework and Oracle E-Business Suite serving financial and transactional orchestration as the ERP Financial component. Application persistence relied on Hibernate with database tables and PL SQL stored procedures developed against Oracle 10g, and server-side components were deployed on WebLogic 10.3 with Java 1.6. JDeveloper was used to produce use cases, class diagrams, and sequence diagrams that guided the configuration framework and development phases.
Integrations were realized using SOAP and RESTful services to interact with Oracle E-Business Suite and other applications developed on Ruby on Rails, with WSDL definitions and Axis used for web services. Asynchronous messaging was implemented with JMS to bridge Repair Management and Mechanic PDA devices identified as Dexterra Applications into Oracle E-Business Suite workflows. The front end used JSP and J2EE technologies with AJAX calls exchanging JSON via JavaScript frameworks such as JQuery, DOJO, PROTOTYPE and SCRIPTACULOUS, and logging and quality practices included Log4J, JUnit test suites, and SVN version control.
Delivery and governance followed Agile practices with daily scrum meetings, iterative development, UAT responsibility and production release management. The runtime deployment was provisioned on Linux with Maven for build and release orchestration, and the project combined application architecture, integration middleware, and database procedural components to operationalize clinical and financial processes.
