In 2019, RTVE Spain deployed Micro Focus IDOL in the Analytics and BI category to index a 50 year institutional multimedia archive and make video, audio and image assets discoverable for news and program production. The initiative was scoped to media and content production workflows so producers and journalists could search archival material directly as part of content creation in Spain.
OpenText Professional Services led the integration of multimedia connectors and AI analytics, configuring Micro Focus IDOL for enterprise scale indexing and contextual search across more than 20 million assets. Functional capabilities implemented included multimedia ingestion via connectors, content aware indexing, and AI driven analytics to surface relevance and context for newsroom queries.
The deployment centralized a searchable index and delivered a single contextual search layer accessible to newsroom and program production teams, integrating asset discovery into daily editorial workflows. Governance activities noted in the integration centered on connector orchestration and search relevance tuning managed by vendor professional services during rollout.
According to the vendor case study, the Micro Focus IDOL implementation reduced search time by about 90 percent, enabling faster asset discovery across the 50 year archive and the more than 20 million asset corpus.
