In 2015, Santander Consumer USA implemented Workday Benefits as its Benefits Administration application to centralize health and welfare plan management and leave administration across the organization. The deployment focused on administering both fully insured and self-funded plans, and included configuration for annual open enrollment and dependent eligibility audits that extended to new organizational entities such as Santander Consumer International in Puerto Rico.
Workday Benefits was configured to manage core benefits enrollment workflows, dependent auditing, leave plan administration, and ongoing plan cost management. Functional capabilities implemented included enrollment and eligibility processing, reporting to support compliance with 1095C and Form 5500 requirements, non-discrimination testing support, and reconciliation of retirement plan records between payroll and third-party recordkeepers.
Operational integration tied Workday Benefits to third-party plan vendors, HRIS teams, payroll, and accounting/finance and security reporting channels, with direct vendor coordination during plan changes and annual open enrollment. Implementation activities documented in the deployment record include managing the transition from PeopleSoft to the Workday benefit operating system and serving as a subject matter expert for system updates and testing, preserving data flows required for benefits administration and external reporting.
Governance and operations were structured around an internal benefits team, with a senior benefits specialist developing and supervising a six-person benefits and leave administration team and coordinating vendor selection and testing. Explicit outcomes reported from these activities include a dependent audit that removed 8.5 percent of ineligible participants, an approximate first-year cost savings of $575,000, and a reported 75 percent reduction in workers compensation claims after the first year, alongside ongoing support for regulatory reporting and annual enrollment governance.

In 2019, Santander Consumer USA implemented Wolters Kluwer Passport as its Legal Practice Management application. The deployment consolidated eight distinct legal entities onto a single enterprise legal management platform, establishing a centralized matter intake and matter lifecycle foundation for global legal users.
Wolters Kluwer Passport was configured as a commercial off the shelf Legal Practice Management solution, with work focused on matter management, matter intake and intake triage, document repository and version control, e-billing and legal spend capture, workflow automation for matter routing, and reporting and analytics capabilities customary to Legal Practice Management platforms. The program consolidated legal business requirements and ran multiple design validation sessions to ensure COTS behavior aligned with bank legal processes.
Program delivery followed agile sprints, with a formal testing strategy, sprint-level test plans and test cases, manual data validation using a bespoke capture template, and daily scrum meetings to manage deliverables and impediments. The project team worked closely with the Wolters Kluwer vendor development team to validate configuration, data population, and COTS customizations against business requirements.
Governance centered on building SME capability across the legal domain, instituting design signoff cycles and QA leadership to support release readiness, and standardizing intake and reporting workflows. The implementation affected legal operations and IT governance by centralizing case management and standardizing processes across the consolidated entities, and it reached a timely go-live.
