In 2012 Scholastic deployed Sterling Background Check to support candidate screening and preboarding workflows within its talent acquisition function. The deployment used Sterling Background Check as the primary BackGround Screening application to centralize verification and compliance activities across recruiting and onboarding.
Sterling Background Check was configured to manage core screening capabilities including background checks, I-9 verification, and scheduling of candidate screening steps. The implementation supported creation and retention of preboarding documentation and candidate records to align recruiting activities with offer processing workflows.
The implementation integrated with Taleo for applicant tracking handoffs and with Workday for downstream HR and payroll coordination, preserving data continuity from requisition creation through hiring. Integration design reflected the need to enforce out of state school district rules and policy for more than 500 consultants and sales employees, and to align hiring records with payroll processes covering over 1,000 employees.
Operational governance emphasized training and workflow standardization, with hiring managers and staff trained on Taleo workflows such as requisition routing, editing position requirements, and offer letter creation. Talent acquisition staff at Scholastic also liaised between HR generalists and Sterling Accountants to manage compliance, screening exceptions, and process orchestration during onboarding and screening.
