In 2013, SolarCity implemented Microsoft Dynamics AX as its ERP Financial application to centralize accounts receivable and accounting reporting workflows. The Microsoft Dynamics AX deployment was positioned to support collections, invoice management, and accounting report generation across corporate finance.
Configuration and functional focus emphasized accounts receivable automation and collections workflow within Microsoft Dynamics AX, including formatting, generating, and analyzing accounting reports. Operational users updated account records daily and used Microsoft Dynamics AX reporting to drive resolution of open items and reconcile receivables activity.
Operational coverage spanned Accounting, Customer Care, and Operations teams, with cross-functional processes established to ensure timely collections against invoices. Staff quickly learned the internal ERP SolarWorks and updated accounts daily, while collections activity contributed to decreases in corporate debt recorded in NetSuite.
Governance centered on finance-led collection processes and daily account maintenance, executed against tight deadlines. Outcomes explicitly cited include collecting over $100,000 of written off debt in five weeks, collecting on open AR, and resolving outstanding items, demonstrating Microsoft Dynamics AX in practice as SolarCitys ERP Financial system for collections and reporting.

In 2016, SolarCity implemented Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) to establish a centralized Analytics and BI capability for enterprise reporting and analytical workloads. The program followed Agile Scrum practices and included recurring design, development and review meetings, creation of technical design documents, test scripts and performance optimization reviews, along with demonstrations and training for business users.
Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) workstreams focused on SSRS report design, development and customization to meet varied business needs, extensive code customization, and the creation of a bespoke framework to upload Excel and CSV data into Dynamics AX. Data migration and staging used DIXF, Excel ODBC and SQL Server import/export tools, and test scenarios and scripts were documented as part of module testing.
The implementation integrated with transactional systems, including Dynamics AX 2012 integrated with Great Plains via Application Integration Framework AIF, and Dynamics AX connected to other legacy systems using BizTalk Server. Technical discussions were managed directly with the implementation partner Microsoft, and integrations emphasized consolidated reporting feeds into the SQL Server analytic layer.
Operational governance covered environment management, change management and the build process for code deployment across multiple environments, with post go-live support, bug fixes and user guide documentation provided as part of the rollout. Responsibilities explicitly included performance tuning, demonstration and end-user training, and running the program under Scrum to align delivery and testing cycles.
