In 2019, Sorgenia implemented Ferranti MECOMS 365 Platform. The Ferranti MECOMS 365 Platform was configured to perform meter data management, customer care and billing to business customers for gas and electricity in Italy.
The implementation concentrated on core MECOMS modules for meter data management, customer care, and billing, with configuration to support gas and electricity product catalogs, tariff handling and multi-site commercial accounts. Workflows were designed to orchestrate meter-to-cash processes, automate periodic billing runs and generate invoices for business customers, while enabling case management for customer service operations.
Operational scope covered Sorgenia Group commercial and metering operations across Italy, aligning the platform with the company focus on electricity generation and marketing and the sale of natural gas. Integrations were oriented around ingesting meter reads and synchronizing billing outputs with commercial and financial processes to preserve data continuity between metering, customer care and billing modules.
Governance emphasized centralizing ownership of meter-to-cash processes, standardizing customer care workflows and establishing billing governance for tariff and contract management. The Ferranti MECOMS 365 Platform serves Sorgenia as a Utilities ERP solution supporting meter data management, customer care and billing for business customers.

| In-House Applications | Legacy | In-House Blockchain | Blockchain Platform | Blockchain | n/a | 2020 | 2020 |
In 2020, Sorgenia participated in testing the In-House Blockchain, a Blockchain Platform, as part of bilateral natural gas trades executed on the Italian Virtual Trading Point PSV. The testing exercise recorded transactions between two market participants and was run on a distributed ledger environment managed by the national transmission system operator Snam, with the In-House Blockchain application used to register trade events on-chain.
The In-House Blockchain implementation focused on core distributed ledger capabilities, including immutable transaction recording, smart contract enabled machine to machine settlement workflows, and support for algorithmic trading interactions between counterparties. Functional emphasis was on trade lifecycle orchestration for purchase and sale agreements, transaction integrity and transparent data sharing across trading participants, consistent with Blockchain Platform functionality.
Operational integration tied the In-House Blockchain to the PSV Trading Hub operated by Snam, and the pilot involved direct participation from Axpo Italia and Sorgenia for requirements definition and testing. The platform was owned and operated by Snam and developed in collaboration with the Italian startup Mangrovia, positioning the deployment within the gas market trading stack rather than within a standalone enterprise ledger.
Governance for the experimentation was collaborative, Snam led requirements and testing activities with participating counterparties, and the workstream was explicitly aligned to Snam’s digital transformation and SnamTec investment agenda. The experimentation continued through 2020 with stated objectives of leveraging immutability, security and transparency of distributed ledger records and exploring future support for renewable gas tracking and energy flow provenance using the In-House Blockchain Blockchain Platform.
