Microsoft Legacy Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) Analytics and BI Analytics and BI n/a 2014 2018
In 2014, the State of Indiana Family and Social Services Administration deployed Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) to centralize enterprise reporting, ETL processing, and analytic data stores under an Analytics and BI initiative. The implementation concentrated on SQL Server-based reporting and analytics infrastructure, positioning Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) as the core platform for database administration, reporting services, and data integration workflows. The deployment included installation and configuration of MS SQL Server 2012 and 2014 instances with cluster configuration, creation of databases, logins, and user permission models, and implementation of High Availability through SQL Server 2012 Always On Availability Groups across Windows Server Failover Clustering. Operational activities covered schema management including tables, views, indexes, referential integrity, T-SQL stored procedures, user-defined functions, triggers, and use of DBCC commands for physical and logical consistency checks. Data integration and migrations were a core signal, with databases migrated from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008R2 and SQL Server 2012 across production and test environments, and Oracle and MySQL databases migrated to MSSQL using the SSMA tool. SSIS packages were authored to transform data from multiple sources using OLE DB connections, complex data conversion logic was implemented, linked servers were created where required, and SSIS deployment and troubleshooting supported heterogeneous ETL flows. The environment also leveraged log shipping, database mirroring, and clustering patterns where appropriate, and SQL Agent jobs automated backup, reindex, shrink, snapshot, and other database maintenance tasks. Operational governance and platform management included defining a database scripts versioning system to track versions across Development, QA, UAT, and Production environments, implementing DB refresh processes on request to keep environments in sync, and configuring pager notification options to alert DBAs on job status. Performance tuning and monitoring were ongoing, using Performance Monitor and SQL Profiler to optimize queries and server performance, and administrators supported front-end ASP.NET application connectivity and backend performance troubleshooting. Security and integrity policies were administered and recommended as part of routine database administration and operational procedures.
