In 2012 T-Systems North America implemented Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) as part of an Analytics and BI deployment across development and production database estates. The implementation encompassed SQL Server installations on both clustered and standalone servers, covering SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008, 2008R2 and 2012 on Windows Server 2003, and included systematic application of service packs and cumulative updates for stability and compliance.
The Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) implementation emphasized ETL and reporting capabilities, with design, development and scheduling of DTS and SSIS packages for data migration and bulk load using BCP. Workstreams included migration of databases and DTS packages from SQL Server 7.0 and 2000 to 2005/2008/2008R2, index creation for query performance, use of DMVs for health monitoring, SQL Profiler and Index Tuning Wizard for identifying expensive T SQL procedures, and running DBCC checks and data corruption remediation.
Integrations and operational coverage included Linked Servers between SQL Server 2005/2008 and Oracle, continuous monitoring through OVO, and backup and restore operations using the third party tool LiteSpeed alongside custom backup scripts. The deployment supported both production and development environments with 24/7 support coverage, capacity planning, hardware scaling activities, and configuration of Active Active and Active Passive SQL Server clusters to increase availability.
Governance and runbook activities were formalized around database refreshes from development to production, job scheduling and automation, regular database security reviews, and user and role synchronization after migrations. Operational governance also included coordinating downtime with project managers and customers, assigning and monitoring DBA team tasks, and maintaining monitoring of event and server logs to detect and resolve issues before user impact.
