In 2016, TalkTalk deployed Microsoft Azure Machine Learning to build an anomaly detection system for TV Set Top Box data. The implementation used Microsoft Azure Machine Learning within the ML and Data Science Platforms category and processed approximately 15GB per day of telemetry and event data collected from set top boxes. TalkTalk’s prior relationship with Microsoft and use of the Azure platform following the blinkbox acquisition informed the decision to standardize on Azure capabilities.
The delivered solution centered on anomaly detection models implemented in Microsoft Azure Machine Learning, with category-aligned workflows for model training, batch scoring, and automated inference orchestration. Pipelines were designed to consume daily telemetry volumes, apply trained anomaly detection logic, and push scored outputs into downstream analytics. Model operationalization and repeatable retraining cycles were implemented to support ongoing detection of abnormal patterns in device telemetry.
Integration points included Power BI for visualization, where Microsoft Azure Machine Learning model outputs populated dashboards that showed anomalies and trends to operational teams. The project was delivered in partnership with London based Microsoft Gold Partner endjin, leveraging Azure platform services for data ingestion, model hosting, and analytics visualization.
Governance and rollout were oriented around the endjin partnership and productionizing machine learning outputs into Power BI for continuous monitoring. The implementation produced Power BI dashboards that surfaced anomalies and trends, enabling operational visibility into set top box behavior.

In 2020, TalkTalk implemented Cisco One Cloud and consolidated its customer communications onto Webex Connect in the United Kingdom. The deployment used Webex CPaaS as Cisco's cloud collaboration capability and is inferred to fall under Cisco One Cloud and Collaboration Flex offers, aligning the initiative with the Collaboration apps category.
The implementation centralized omnichannel messaging and customer service workflows, moving messaging channels, chat, and SMS into API driven orchestration with Webex Connect. Configuration work emphasized contact routing, CRM integration for case creation and agent queuing, and orchestration of customer service processes to support digital first interaction flows.
Operational scope targeted TalkTalk's customer service organization across the United Kingdom, integrating Webex CPaaS with TalkTalk's CRM to unify agent workflows and customer records. Outcomes reported in the vendor case study include 30% of contacts redirected to digital messaging and a 30 point increase in NPS versus voice, reflecting a measurable shift in channel usage and customer satisfaction.
