In 2012, Transcontinental re-implemented Oracle PeopleSoft ERP, deploying PeopleSoft FSCM version 9.1 as its ERP Financial platform. The project targeted core financial and procurement functions for the Canadian manufacturing firm of approximately 7,500 employees and $2.053 billion in revenue, centralizing transaction processing and ledger management under a single ERP Financial instance.
Oracle PeopleSoft ERP was configured to deliver core FSCM capabilities, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, Fixed Assets and Purchasing, with module setups aligned to standard ERP Financial workflows. The implementation emphasized PeopleSoft workflow automation for approvals and period close orchestration, and configured ledger accounting rules to support consistent financial reporting.
The deployment architecture favored a centralized application footprint to enforce a standardized chart of accounts and accounting rules across business units, while role based security and segregation of duties controls were implemented within PeopleSoft. The re-implementation encompassed staged testing, data conversion into PeopleSoft FSCM 9.1, and coordinated cutover planning to align accounting, treasury and procurement teams.
Governance established formal ownership by corporate finance and procurement, instituted change control for configuration updates, and standardized finance process workflows to sustain the Oracle PeopleSoft ERP environment. Operational coverage concentrated on corporate finance, accounting and procurement functions within the ERP Financial scope.
