SimScale Legacy SimScale Fluid Dynamics Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) PLM and Engineering n/a 2023 2023
In 2023 Telema implemented SimScale Fluid Dynamics to strengthen aerodynamic and acoustic analysis capabilities for its railway and industrial fan product lines. SimScale Fluid Dynamics, a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) application, was adopted by Telema's design and development organization at the Piacenza site to support fan designers responsible for centrifugal, axial, and mixed flow machines. The implementation focused on standard CFD functional workflows including CAD model preparation, automated meshing, steady and transient solver setups, turbulence modeling, aeroacoustic prediction, thermal and fluid coupling, and parametric design studies. Telema used SimScale Fluid Dynamics together with CAD-driven design inputs typical of SolidWorks based engineering, enabling iterative simulation-based refinement of blade geometry, flow passages, and inlet and outlet conditions. Operational coverage centered on the product development and validation lifecycle, with simulation outputs incorporated into prototype testing plans, technical documentation, project specifications, and compliance reporting for railway applications. Governance and process changes included embedding simulation sign-off into design reviews, assigning simulation ownership within the fan design role, and aligning simulation artifacts with existing test report and certification workflows at the Piacenza engineering team.
