In 2019, Trensurb Brazil implemented Teltronic TETRA to upgrade the Porto Alegre metro telecommunications system under a Network Management and Monitoring program aimed at modernising voice and data communications. The Teltronic TETRA deployment was scoped as a transport communications modernization for the Porto Alegre metro, replacing analogue operational workflows with digital trunked radio capabilities while adding GPS positioning, secure communications and integrated control-centre functionality.
The implementation architecture included main and redundant controllers, distributed base stations and train-mounted radios configured to operate within a TETRA trunked radio topology. Teltronic TETRA was provisioned with network management and monitoring capabilities to centrally manage radio assets, fault and alarm monitoring, spectrum and channel configuration and secure voice and short data services, consistent with Network Management and Monitoring functional patterns.
Operational coverage focused on metro operations, train crews and the control centre, with redundancy in controller infrastructure to support continuity of communications. Governance and operational workflow changes emphasized integrated control-centre functionality for dispatch and operational monitoring, and the solution was described in the project announcement as delivering GPS-enabled location services and secure, centrally managed communications across the Porto Alegre metro.
