In 2007 Unisinos began replacing Oracle PeopleSoft ERP with TOTVS RM, initiating a phased migration that started in the three Jesuit schools and expanded across the university network. The 2007 decision launched a multi-year ERP project classified under the ERP Financial category, with TOTVS RM positioned as the institution wide financial and administrative backbone.
The TOTVS RM implementation concentrated on ERP Financial capabilities commonly deployed in higher education, including financial management, general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, budgeting controls and student billing workflows. Configuration work emphasized standard financial modules and administrative process automation to align accounting, treasury and campus finance functions under a single application, while adapting interfaces for campus operational staff.
Deployment was executed in stages, with initial school level rollouts in 2007, a wider adoption across Unisinos administrative units by 2009, and a conclusion of the institutional migration reported in February 2011. The program consolidated systems across campuses in São Leopoldo, Porto Alegre and Caxias do Sul, bringing finance and administrative operations for an institution serving more than 24,000 enrolled students onto TOTVS RM and discontinuing the prior Oracle PeopleSoft ERP footprint.
Governance followed a phased rollout model, separating administrative and academic waves to reduce operational disruption and to focus academic-area migration later in the program. The project record notes user adoption challenges during earlier phases, and references an earlier Oracle education ERP effort that had required 18 months of work and R$ 15 million of investment, which influenced rollout pacing and training emphasis for the TOTVS RM program.
Unisinos publicly framed the conclusion of the TOTVS RM deployment as a strategic IT turnaround, stating the new ERP simplified processes and offered a more user friendly interface that would enable phased delivery of new student services. In 2003, Unisinos implemented Oracle PeopleSoft HCM as part of a coordinated administrative modernization branded the Synergy Project. The implementation explicitly configured an HR Information and Services Portal, electronic workflow and document management, and teaching management and student portal functionality marketed to students as My Unisinos, aligning Core HR functionality with student and academic administration features.
Technical and operational integration focused on connecting PeopleSoft HR processes to the university web portal and academic administration modules so that personnel records, leave and vacation tracking, cafeteria information, and service requests are visible through self-service interfaces. The rollout was funded as a R$ 15 million investment to be applied over five years, with a target to complete full system deployment within two years under Merithus Consultoria responsibility.
Governance included a named project manager for Sinergia, Aliomar Silva de Oliveira, staged employee and faculty briefings, and visible executive sponsorship from PeopleSoft regional leadership. The declared outcomes in the implementation plan include integrated administrative processes across departments, greater visibility into approval workflows for procurement and academic requests, streamlined student enrollment and document access via the portal, and expanded online HR services for staff and faculty.
