In 2015 Universal Sompo General Insurance implemented IBM Cognos Analytics to address siloed applications and the absence of a central reporting repository. This Analytics and BI deployment provided a centralized reporting and analytics layer to support day to day reporting and insurance specific KPI generation for actuarial and business teams.
Data from core insurance applications running on AS400 was replicated in real time into an Operational Data Store using IBM CDC. IBM Data Integration tooling was used to transform and stage data into a star schema in IBM Db2 Warehouse, while IBM Cognos Analytics was configured to deliver key reports, dashboards, and KPI visualizations that reflected the star schema design and purpose built data marts.
Universal Sompo General Insurance implemented IBM Cognos Analytics as an Analytics and BI solution to support reporting and analytics for actuarial, underwriting, claims, and commercial business functions. The implementation integrated operational transaction feeds into the ODS, provisioned data marts for specific KPI sets such as Revenue Per Policyholder, Average Cost Per Claim, Loss Ratio and Underwriting Speed, and enabled actuarial users to access consolidated datasets for model building.
Governance changes included centralizing data access through the ODS and defined data marts, and enabling self service report generation to reduce IT intervention. Outcomes reported by the program included real time visibility of source systems in the ODS, business user self service for reporting, and the deployment of predictive models including Persistency Report, Customer Churn, Campaign Analytics and Analytics to Predict Surrender, supported by the technology stack IBM CDC, IBM Datastage, IBM Db2 Warehouse and IBM Cognos Analytics.

The deployment targeted an organizational population of roughly 3,000 employees and was positioned to centralize email, file sharing, and real time collaboration for both corporate and branch office staff.
Microsoft 365 was configured to deliver core Collaboration capabilities including Exchange Online hosted email, SharePoint Online for intranet and document management, Microsoft Teams for unified communications and meetings, and OneDrive for endpoint file sync. Office client provisioning and updates were managed through Microsoft 365 services to standardize desktop productivity and reduce client configuration variance.
The implementation used Microsoft 365 identity and access controls to unify authentication and single sign on across cloud services, leveraging Azure Active Directory features such as conditional access and role based access to secure resources. Observable Microsoft 365 artifacts on the company website indicate organizational use of Microsoft 365 mail exchange and hosted service components for external communications and asset delivery.
Governance focused on tenant level administration, centralized policy application for retention and compliance, and configuration of eDiscovery and audit logging typical for a Collaboration deployment of this scale.
