Vulcan Technographics, Software Purchases, AI and Digital Transformation Initiatives
Discover the latest software purchases and digital transformation initiatives being undertaken by Vulcan and its business and technology executives. Each quarter our research team identifies on-prem and cloud applications that are being used by the 200 Vulcan employees from the public (Press Releases, Customer References, Testimonials, Case Studies and Success Stories) and proprietary sources.
During our research, we have identified that Vulcan has purchased the following applications: Intuit QuickBooks Online for ERP Financial in 2016, Plex ERP for Manufacturing ERP in 2012, Sama GenAI for Generative AI Platforms in 2019 and the related IT decision-makers and key stakeholders.
Our database provides customer insight and contextual information on which enterprise applications and software systems Vulcan is running and its propensity to invest more and deepen its relationship with Intuit , Plex Systems , Sama or identify new suppliers as part of their overall Digital and IT transformation projects to stay competitive, fend off threats from disruptive forces, or comply with internal mandates to improve overall enterprise efficiency.
We have been analyzing Vulcan revenues, which have grown to $30.0 million in 2024, plus its IT budget and roadmap, cloud software purchases, aggregating massive amounts of data points that form the basis of our forecast assumptions for Vulcan intention to invest in emerging technologies such as AI, Machine Learning, IoT, Blockchain, Autonomous Database or in cloud-based ERP, HCM, CRM, EPM, Procurement or Treasury applications.

| Intuit | Legacy | Intuit QuickBooks Online | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2016 | 2016 |
In 2016 Vulcan implemented Intuit QuickBooks Online to manage core ERP Financial accounting and reporting across its two facility footprint. The deployment used distinct QuickBooks Online company files for each location, with bookkeeping and office management functions concentrated at the Brewton, AL site and daily transactional entry performed into each location file.
Intuit QuickBooks Online was configured to support accounts receivable and accounts payable workflows, daily data entry, and a cadence of monthly and annual reconciliations covering more than 20 ledger accounts. The system supported payroll processing activity including weekly payroll checks, payroll tax recording and workers compensation tracking, in addition to purchase order issuance for departmental procurement and preparation of monthly departmental financial statements.
Operational coverage extended across finance, payroll, procurement and insurance administration, with the Bookkeeper and Office Manager responsible for end to end AR AP processing, reconciliation control, payroll execution and management of auto, liability and health insurance accounts. No external integrations are documented in the source notes, the implementation is portrayed as file level bookkeeping within Intuit QuickBooks Online for both locations.
Governance and process discipline centered on daily data entry into each QuickBooks file, weekly payroll cycles, and monthly and annual reconciliation routines to support departmental reporting and statutory tax activities. Controls were operationalized through a single bookkeeping role that combined transactional posting, PO issuance and periodic financial close activities rather than distributed system orchestration.

| Plex Systems | Legacy | Plex ERP | Manufacturing ERP | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2012 | 2012 |
In 2012, Vulcan implemented Plex ERP to move its core systems to the cloud and address chronic visibility and inventory control problems. Vulcan implemented Plex ERP as its Manufacturing ERP platform to unify plant floor operations, accounting, and inventory tracking across its multi-plant manufacturing footprint.
The implementation focused on core Manufacturing ERP capabilities including manufacturing execution and shop floor visibility, inventory control with field audit functionality, and integrated financials to eliminate spreadsheet-driven month end reconciliations. Plex ERP provided real-time reporting and part-level traceability that exposed process and costing variances, and the deployment design enabled material transfers between facilities without extra non-value-added paperwork.
Integrations were explicitly implemented with Avalara for automated sales tax calculation and returns filing, using the updated Avalara connector in Plex, and the integration reduced manual tax work. Control+M Solutions served as the implementation partner, supplying specialists across categories, guiding configuration, testing, and the Avalara connector work to ensure accuracy of tax and transactional flows.
Rollout and governance emphasized strict project management, a formal work plan, rigorous testing, and organizational change management, which included training and cross-functional alignment under the One Vulcan initiative. The program targeted plant floor users, finance, and management across Vulcan s five operating plants to create shared accountability and consistent reporting.
Outcomes documented in the implementation include significantly improved real-time visibility into inventory and costs, more accountable cross-plant reporting, the ability to run field audits to locate parts, redeployment of administrative staff to higher value roles, and a sales tax process that shifted from a near full headcount effort to a task taking approximately 15 minutes per month.

| Sama | Legacy | Sama GenAI | Generative AI Platforms | AI Development | n/a | 2019 | 2020 |
In 2019 Vulcan implemented Sama GenAI in the Generative AI Platforms category to support wildlife conservation computer vision for research and conservation operations. The deployment focused on large scale image and video annotation for UAV sourced datasets used in wildlife monitoring.
Sama GenAI was applied to image and video annotation pipelines, with inferred use of model evaluation tooling and human in the loop workflows to manage annotation quality and iterative model refinement. Sama delivered annotation at scale, labeling between 600,000 and 1,000,000 images across project datasets. This annotation capability accelerated training data preparation and model training cycles.
Operational coverage centered on Vulcan's research and conservation operations across African survey regions, where UAV sourced imagery drove object detection and species monitoring workflows. Integrations with other enterprise systems are not specified, the implementation is described in terms of dataset ingestion, annotation orchestration and human review workflows. Sama GenAI provided the application layer for managing annotation projects and quality control.
Governance relied on human in the loop annotation governance and model evaluation checkpoints to ensure label consistency and iterative retraining. The implementation was intended to improve detection accuracy for wildlife monitoring and explicitly reported faster model training and reduced turnaround times as operational effects.
