In 2020 Western Virginia Water Authority deployed Itus Digital APM through Itus Digital's Rapid Start Program to revamp its Asset Performance Management plan, targeting assets with premature failures and elevated maintenance expense. The initiative focused on a defined use case, a pumping station within the Authority's service area, with the objective of quickly generating actionable insights into maintenance optimizations and operational conditions for critical industrial assets.
The deployment consisted of a remotely provisioned instance of the Itus Digital APM application, which was configured to ingest historical data and run analytics and historical simulations. The team analyzed operational characteristics including excursion frequency, duration, and severity, and used the Itus Digital APM analytics to identify trends, deviations, and conditions correlated to machine degradation.
Integrations were explicitly implemented to bring together disparate data sources, with historical data streams supplied from the Water Authority's SCADA, Maintenance Management, and Energy Management systems into the Itus solution. The integrated view consolidated maintenance records, operational telemetry, and energy usage for the pumping station, enabling cross correlated analysis across operational and maintenance datasets.
Program governance began with a facilitated evaluation of standard Asset Performance Management work processes, project definition, and timelines, and progressed through a structured Rapid Start engagement. The collaboration included six virtual workshop sessions, and the entire program was initiated and completed in less than seven hours of actual engagement, providing a rapid, low risk approach to validate APM processes and analytical methods.
The analysis uncovered specific periods where operating conditions, maintenance events, and energy usage correlated with maintenance incidents, and it validated periods of improved runtime aligned to changes in operating and maintenance plans. The Itus Digital APM solution remains available to the Water Authority for continued analysis and to evaluate additional use cases that leverage their operational and maintenance systems and data.
