In 2015, WPX Energy implemented Microsoft BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, SQL Server Reporting) to establish an Analytics and BI capability supporting reporting and measurement workflows. The deployment represented the organization first enterprise BI initiative and prioritized unifying Gas and Oil data into a single reporting environment.
The implementation leveraged SSRS for report delivery, SSAS for analytical model development, SSIS for ETL orchestration and SQL Server Data Tools for solution development and deployment. Deliverables included custom report development, process design, and definition and documentation of critical reporting functions, with explicit responsibility for those activities noted in project ownership.
Technically, the Microsoft BI components were integrated with an existing stack that included Oracle 11g, ASP.net MVC, SQL Server 2008 and 2012, HTML5 front end elements and several measurement data feeds. A central technical workstream was a database merge project that consolidated gas and oil databases into a single integrated data source to feed SSAS cubes and SSRS reporting. SSIS packages and scheduled SQL Server Reporting workflows were used to manage ETL, data transformations and report distribution across the integrated environment.
