| UiPath | Legacy | UiPath RPA Platform | Robotic Process Automation | PaaS | n/a | 2019 | 2019 |
In 2019, Dongfeng Nissan implemented the UiPath RPA Platform to accelerate its Robotic Process Automation agenda as part of a broader digital transformation program aimed at improving operational efficiency in China. The initiative drew on prior experience within its parent company Nissan Motor and focused on automating repetitive digital tasks across both conventional and electric vehicle business lines.
Implementation emphasized a company level Centre of Excellence, the CoE was staffed by the digital transformation office, IT department, and business unit leaders who defined CoE responsibilities, established a standardized system model prior to large scale rollouts, and promoted a democratization of RPA development so business managers and non technical staff could build automations. The program staged pilot projects to validate use cases, then standardized processes before full automation and tracked outcomes through controlled rollouts. To date the CoE approach enabled Dongfeng Nissan to implement 87.11% of its RPA process work internally while maintaining a high rate of in house development.
The UiPath RPA Platform was applied to core functional workflows including back office clerical processes, invoice processing, expense claims, HR onboarding and purchasing while enabling newer front office scenarios such as customer management by coordinating RPA with AI capabilities. Technical patterns included use of UiPath AI Computer Vision to emulate human screen reading, integration with application program interfaces to automate clerical exchanges, and exploration of OCR and natural language processing for document intake and classification. The deployment positioned RPA as a data collection and automation layer that can be combined with independent analytics tools in subsequent phases.
Operational coverage spans eight key business areas, with 126 RPA processes implemented, more than 400 staff trained, and an explicit reporting of 13,221 work hours saved annually. The RPA footprint covers R&D, manufacturing, sales and marketing, finance, and human resources, and is supported by ongoing pilot programs at the manufacturing unit to identify additional efficiency opportunities. Employees uniformly reported that RPA contributed to system standardization and broadened opportunities to apply new skillsets across business operations.
Governance centered on the CoE model which codified responsibilities, standardized system templates, and created a repeatable delivery pipeline from process identification through automation and result tracking. Democratizing development was used as a cultural governance lever to encourage business unit ownership and rapid scaling, while planned integrations with analytics and AI components define the next phase of deployment. Management reported satisfaction with results and expects to increase the scale of UiPath RPA Platform usage to further promote company wide automation and process standardization.
