In 2018 Florida Turnpike implemented Google Cloud Actifio GO BaaS as its Backup as a Service (BaaS) platform to formalize backup and restore capabilities across the Turnpike Enterprise. ABT Solutions served as the implementation partner and provided on-site systems administration and consulting support during design and deployment activities.
The implementation work included designing and documenting a proof of concept for Actifio Backup systems and configuring Google Cloud Actifio GO BaaS to support application consistent backups and restore workflows. Functional activity covered file level restore capability demonstrated through Tintri setup and configuration, creation of application stacks attached to user profiles, and configuration of distributed switching to connect multiple hosts in a cluster. The team also provisioned virtual environments including virtual desktops and servers and performed blade server setup and SAN upgrades on an older EMC disk array.
Integrations and operational coverage were executed against the FDOT Turnpike Enterprise IT estate, encompassing Linux and Windows servers, Oracle and MSQL databases, and existing backup tooling including Veritas NetBackup and Cohesity systems. Monitoring and operational visibility were maintained through SolarWinds Orion, while traffic data collection and MSQL server deployments supported operational telemetry. Project execution and progress reporting were managed in Smartsheets.
Governance and operationalization included developing Standard Operating Procedures for backup and restore processes, documenting policy interpretation and patch update processes, and following government purchasing guidelines for procurement actions. The implementation narrative records tasks to analyze and define user needs, prepare SOPs, and plan organize and complete projects consistent with enterprise IT governance.
Explicit operational outcomes documented by the engagement include maintaining reliable backups for Oracle and MSQL databases using the configured backup processes and technologies, and completion of an Actifio proof of concept to validate Backup as a Service workflows with Google Cloud Actifio GO BaaS.
