In 2017, Comercial City Fresko deployed HPE NonStop (formerly Tandem) servers as part of a targeted Servers, Storage and Networking initiative to harden payment authorization processing across its La Comer, City Market, Fresko and Sumesa hypermarkets. The deployment was driven by the need to protect up to 30 million annual POS card transactions processed on ACI BASE24, and the HPE NonStop hardware was provided by Hewlett Packard Enterprise while comforte delivered the SecurDPS data protection layer.
The implementation centered on comforte SecurDPS tokenization integrated with the central ACI BASE24 authorization environment running on HPE NonStop. SecurDPS replaced sensitive primary account number data with token values, implemented a secure vault with dual control to store token to PAN mappings, and enforced strong authentication controls to prevent unauthorized access to unprotected data. The solution was implemented without changes to application source code and without production downtime, preserving the continuous 24/7 availability requirements of the authorization system.
Operationally the rollout covered the company authorization infrastructure that supports POS networks across Mexico City, State Of Mexico and the Central and Bajio regions, ensuring the solution worked end to end with ACI BASE24 on HPE NonStop. The architecture emphasized data-centric security on Servers, Storage and Networking assets, enabling enterprise-wide tokenization that can be scaled to other systems without altering existing transaction flows. The project timeline was constrained to under six months to meet a PCI-DSS audit deadline.
Governance changes included dual-control key management in the secure vault, strict need-to-know access controls, and removal of cleartext PAN from core enterprise systems to reduce reliance on compensating controls. Explicit outcomes stated by the implementation were successful PCI-DSS re-certification, tokenized data that is unreadable and non-exploitable if exposed, and no observable change in service levels for partners and customers since the authorization system remained continuously available during the rollout.
