Delaware North Australia | Leisure and Hospitality | 4000 | $500M | Australia | Amazon Web Services (AWS) | Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) | Database Management | 2022 |
In 2022, Delaware North Australia engaged Daemon Solutions to implement Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) as part of an Amazon Just Walk Out integration at Marvel Stadium. The Database Management implementation supported the connector layer that enabled frictionless shopping for two Food and Beverage outlets operated by Delaware North.
Daemon Solutions designed and built the connector with discrete functional modules, including API ingestion from the Just Walk Out system, connector business logic to verify customer viability and price baskets, a client interface to input data into Delaware North systems, and data persistence with retry logic for failed third party payment endpoints and unavailable EPOS. A customer receipt portal and a staff refund portal were delivered alongside the core connector, and all code was developed using test driven development with acceptance tests across environments and infrastructure delivered as code.
The deployment architecture leveraged AWS services with AWS API Gateway managing the JWO API interface, AWS ECS hosting the connector container, and Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) providing the Database Management capabilities for transaction persistence and replay. Integrations explicitly included the stadium EPOS, accounting systems, and stock control systems to enable later reconciliation and rerun of transactions when the POS failed, and the solution used additional AWS serverless products to reduce custom infrastructure overhead.
Daemon Solutions led governance and rollout activities with discovery workshops to align stakeholders and an architectural design phase to establish operational processes for the stadium operator. The project was delivered on time and moved to production in May 2023, the connector responded to gate open requests at an average below 20 milliseconds, it exceeded the 3 second response target, and it supported rerunning transactions into accounting and stock control after a POS failure; after five months of operation Delaware North committed to extending the connector to additional F&B outlets and is discussing broader stadium deployments.
