| SAP | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2018 | 2018 |
In 2018 AbbVie Singapore migrated SAP ERP ECC 6.0 to SAP S/4 HANA. The implementation was positioned as an ERP Financial program, concentrating on core finance, procurement and inventory controls to support the site’s biologics manufacturing and supplier management objectives. The rollout targeted finance led workflows for accounts payable and working capital optimization together with procurement and materials management capabilities.
Configuration work emphasized procurement-to-pay processes, vendor management inventory design, and inventory optimization modules. SAP S/4 HANA was configured to monitor safety stock levels, expedite backorders, and manage supplier qualification workflows that span document review, audit and formal approval steps with Quality Assurance. The Vendor Management Inventory system was designed and optimized within the SAP S/4 HANA footprint to drive targeted reductions in manufacturing manhours.
The implementation integrated supplier relationship management processes with inventory and financial ledgers to provide centralized control over direct spend and payment term management. AbbVie Singapore managed approximately USD 10 MM of direct spend across six global locations as part of the operational scope, and executed site cost reduction tactics that produced approximately SGD 800K through extended payment terms, volume consolidation, pricing agreements and alternate sourcing. SAP S/4 HANA served as the primary ERP Financial system for these consolidated procurement and finance controls.
Governance and change activities included formalizing supplier qualification with Quality Assurance, training employees on site policies and procedures, and embedding procurement governance to support improved on-time deliveries. The implementation was aligned with internal process innovation efforts, including participation in a Global Culture Initiative to refine process efficiency and agility, and was part of an IT upgrade from SAP ERP ECC 6.0 to SAP S/4 HANA intended to enhance user experience.

In 2018, AbbVie Singapore implemented Workday HCM as its Core HR solution to establish a Singapore Service Center supporting countries in Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Workday HCM served as the central system of record for employee data and regional HR process execution, enabling standardized worker lifecycle management and centralized HR operations for the regional hub.
The implementation emphasized Core HR capabilities including employee master data management, organizational structure configuration, transaction workflows for hires transfers and terminations, and reporting and analytics to support service delivery. Workday HCM was positioned to support case handling and service-request workflows commonly used in a shared service model, with configuration aligned to regional HR operating processes.
Operational coverage centered on the Singapore Service Center and HR Operations, with day to day support and escalation management for HR Business Partners in the countries supported. The service center operated alongside a ticketing system to track cases and used Workday HCM reporting to translate data analysis requirements into actionable solutions, while the regional HR Operations Manager acted as the primary Workday subject matter expert.
Governance and process work included development of process maps, detailed work instructions, end user help guides and FAQs, establishment of service level agreements and key performance indicators, and formal escalation and recovery procedures. Root cause analysis, training identification and Service Delivery Optimization activities were built into rollout and ongoing operations to standardize practices and improve consistency of HR service delivery.
