IBM Legacy IBM Blockchain Platform Blockchain Platform Blockchain n/a 2018 2018
In 2018, ADNOC Gas implemented IBM Blockchain Platform as a Blockchain Platform to pilot end to end supply chain tracking and production accounting across its oil value chain. The initiative was launched as an internal pilot with IBM as the technology vendor, focused on capturing transactional events from the oil well through to customer delivery while proving immutable provenance and transaction validation across operating entities. The IBM Blockchain Platform deployment emphasizes asset provenance and production accounting capabilities, configured to record quantities and associated financial values for intra company settlement. Functional capabilities implemented include transaction validation and execution workflows that automate accounting between ADNOC operating companies, and ledger instrumentation to trace product movement and financial entries, consistent with permissioned blockchain operational models. At this stage the platform is used internally to automate accounting between ADNOC operating companies by tracking quantities and financial values, and the implementation is designed to expand to link to customers and investors in later phases. Operational coverage is focused on supply chain and commercial trading workflows within ADNOC, with planned extension to external counterparties to enable end to end transaction visibility and customer integration. Governance for the pilot has been led by ADNOC Digital Unit, with internal rollout controls around data provenance and transaction orchestration, and IBM providing the blockchain infrastructure. ADNOC executives framed expected benefits as reduced operating costs through removal of manual reconciliation, strengthened marketing and trading capabilities, and creation of long term sustainable value to support ADNOC’s 2030 smart growth strategy, all outcomes stated by ADNOC during the pilot announcement.
