In 2014, AERA Energy implemented IFS Field Operator (formerly P2 Field Operator) as its Field Service Management solution to support field operations across its California oil and gas production assets. The IFS Field Operator rollout targeted field operations and maintenance workflows for AERA Energy, linking mobile field crews to centralized operational data and corporate reporting channels.
IFS Field Operator was configured to deliver core Field Service Management capabilities expected in upstream operations, including work order management, asset and maintenance scheduling, mobile field data capture for operators, and field inspection and compliance workflows. The implementation emphasized mobile data collection and offline-capable field workflows to reduce administrative time for field operators and to standardize job completion and maintenance records.
The IFS Field Operator deployment was executed alongside other AERA IT programs, notably the Redwood Migration Project which centralized volumes, revenue, and land systems at AERA headquarters after migration from Shell Houston and Malaysia, and a reserves reporting implementation that engaged P2 Energy Solutions. The broader program also included an SAP Mobility project to reduce field recording time, with coordination across Linux, Windows, and database administrators and the SAP support team, ensuring field mobility and enterprise systems interoperability.
Governance for the program followed a cross-functional model, with local mentoring and joint teams comprised of operations managers, field operators, internal IT staff, and contractors. Project leadership directly and indirectly managed multi-disciplinary teams to deliver the integrated initiatives on schedule, and the reserves reporting effort explicitly reduced weekly maintenance and reporting effort from 40 hours to 8 hours.
