In 2020, Air New Zealand implemented FlightKeys 5D to standardize flight planning and operational flight plan formatting. FlightKeys 5D is a Flight Management application that delivers the FlightKeys flight plan format, a format noted in industry use by American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Air New Zealand, Volotea, TUI, Allegiant, Breeze, Endeavor Air, Envoy Air, JetBlue, Sunwing Airlines, and Air Canada.
The implementation configured core FlightKeys 5D functional capabilities consistent with Flight Management workflows, including operational flight plan generation and formatting, route validation and airway routing, fuel planning and estimations, weight and balance processing, and consolidated NOTAM and meteorological briefing support. These modules were applied to automate dispatch sequencing and produce OFPs in the FlightKeys format for downstream operational use.
Operational scope centered on flight operations, dispatcher teams, and crew operations who consume and approve OFPs, with the system instrumented to feed standard dispatch workflows and to align OFP output with carrier-specific filing expectations. The deployment emphasized OFP template standardization and the FlightKeys 5D data model for consistent flight plan exchange across internal operational teams.
Governance focused on updating standard operating procedures, validating OFP templates and formatting rules, and conducting targeted operator training for dispatch and flight crew on the FlightKeys 5D workflow. Rollout activities included staged template validation and approval gates to ensure compliance with operational briefing and dispatch authorization processes.
