Oracle Cloud ERP was configured to support standard financial modules and close processes, including subledger management, general ledger, corporate reporting and statutory returns such as the NHSI operating expenditure and staffing returns. In parallel the team developed and maintained a forecasting model and a cost improvement programme tracker inside the financial environment, and produced ad hoc management reporting to support directors and the head of finance.
The Oracle Cloud ERP implementation incorporated direct data feeds and upload workflows for transactional inputs, notably JAC drugs, ESR Payroll and NHS supply chain uploads to the ledger, with validation and correction routines applied prior to import. A complementary data platform was developed, including a data warehouse for product analysis and a separate staffing analysis warehouse that consolidated three systems of relevant data, using SSIS to automate ETL, SQL Server for data storage and C#.Net tools to optimise read write performance, and IBM Cognos for analytical interrogation of top overspending cost centres on temporary staffing.
Governance and operational control were formalised through month end procedures, ownership of corporate reporting and a project lead role for the Oracle Cloud implementation. Automation workstreams delivered practical efficiency gains, for example macros that automated routine tasks and reduced processing time substantially, and reporting artifacts were designed to bring finance, HR and activity performance information together to enable unified analysis within the ERP Financial landscape.

Governance and operational changes included a project lead driven Oracle Cloud and HR data consolidation effort, tightened reconciliation between payroll and finance, and new data quality controls. The team developed a transactional tagging system and machine learning assisted coding suggestions to improve ledger coding quality, and built an automated robot to extract transform and load data to support near live transactional and balance reports for finance and divisional users.
