Adobe Systems Legacy Adobe Acrobat Pro Document Management Content Management n/a 2020 2020
In 2020, American Concrete Institute implemented Adobe Acrobat Pro, Apps Category . The deployment targeted the Publishing and Communications function to support production of all department items for each CI issue, aligning with Managing Editor responsibilities for final edits, file preparation, and external communications. The implementation is explicitly tied to editorial workflows that include Letters, President’s Memo, News, Products and Practices, Industry Focus, Chapter Reports, Committee Document Abstracts, and meeting coverage. Adobe Acrobat Pro was configured to support standard document production capabilities such as PDF creation from Office files, advanced editing and markup, redaction, OCR for scanned content, PDF forms and comments for review cycles, and print preflight checks for production-ready output. The configuration emphasized annotation and collaborative review features to mirror the Managing Editor’s role in conducting final edits and preparing manuscripts for publishing. These capabilities were applied across issue-level production tasks and convention-related article development. The implementation integrated operationally with MS Office Suite and photo editing programs, reflecting stated requirements for working knowledge of those tools, and supported handoffs to Publishing Services staff for final production. Operational coverage included on-site editorial activities, convention and conference attendance for content capture, and off-site meetings where files needed to be prepared and exchanged. Workflows routed annotated and production-ready PDFs between editorial staff and Publishing Services for assembly and print output. Governance centered on editorial preplanning and structured review cycles, with Adobe Acrobat Pro serving as the control point for versioning, access to commented drafts, and sign-off before files moved to production. The tool supported the Managing Editor’s responsibilities for final edits, quality checks against style guidance such as the Chicago Manual of Style, and preparation of convention scripts and external communications. Role-based access and document review workflows were used to maintain editorial integrity and coordination between Publishing Services and editorial teams.
