| UKG | Legacy | UKG Workforce Central Absence Manager (ex Kronos Workforce Absence Manager) | Absence and Leave Management | HCM | n/a | 2013 | 2013 |
In 2013, Appvion implemented UKG Workforce Central Absence Manager (ex Kronos Workforce Absence Manager) under the Absence and Leave Management category to centralize absence tracking and enforce complex labor policies across its manufacturing workforce. The deployment targeted corporate HR and plant operations to provide a single system for leave requests, absence recording, and compliance management.
The configuration focused on core absence management capabilities, including accrual and entitlement calculations, leave of absence case management, rule based eligibility and business rules configuration to model complex labor policies, and absence calendars for planning. Automation of request routing and approvals was implemented to reduce manual administration and to standardize calculations for statutory and contractual leave.
Operational coverage included HR administrators, payroll administrators, and site supervisors across Appvion manufacturing sites in the United States, positioning the application as the authoritative record for absence events and entitlements. UKG Workforce Central Absence Manager (ex Kronos Workforce Absence Manager) functioned within Absence and Leave Management workflows to support workforce planning and operational scheduling.
Governance was organized around role based approvals, centralized policy configuration, and exception handling to maintain compliance with complex labor rules. The customer described productivity and compliance as primary outcomes, with the implementation intended to reduce administrative fragmentation and standardize absence lifecycle workflows.

In 2018, Appvion implemented Emerson Asset Management as its Asset Performance Management platform. The deployment was anchored by work led by an Electrical and Instrumentation Supervisor who, between March 2017 and June 2019, managed a multi‑trade team of 18 electricians, instrument technicians, and electrical technicians and implemented Emerson AMS Device Manager database functions as part of the Emerson Asset Management rollout.
The implementation delivered a centralized device database and configuration management capability, using Emerson AMS Device Manager to store electronic instrument and automatic valve programming and other operating parameters. Configuration and parameter archival, device-level diagnostics, and performance tracking were configured to support predictive maintenance workflows consistent with Asset Performance Management practices.
Operational integration focused on maintenance and reliability functions within Appvion manufacturing operations, with the database tied conceptually to field instruments and valve controllers to consolidate instrumentation data and operational settings. Day to day operations were impacted through creation and maintenance of the daily work schedule and projected shutdown work orders, aligning the asset management system with maintenance planning and execution.
Governance and workforce changes accompanied the technical implementation, including collaboration with external vendors to design and coordinate employee training, and quarterly personnel evaluations for the instruments and electrical team. The Emerson Asset Management implementation, using Emerson AMS Device Manager for device and parameter management, is credited with greatly improved performance tracking and predictive maintenance visibility.
