In 2020, Astra implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations as its ERP Financial platform. The implementation was executed by a small, cross functional ERP team embedded in the Astra OS software engineering organization, with an explicit mandate to build an integrated finance backbone that can scale with the company as it pursues rapid launch cadence and operational growth.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations was configured for core finance modules including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Project Accounting, Cash and Bank, Budgeting, and Consolidation, with role based workflows and management reporting capabilities via Financial Reporter. The ERP team led requirements gathering, developed detailed functional designs, configured system workflows, and conducted configuration and integration testing to validate finance and project accounting processes.
The deployment scope emphasized collaboration with product managers, business stakeholders, and engineering teams to align financial controls with manufacturing, test, and launch operations. Implementation activities explicitly included data migration planning and execution, application build, test and deploy activities, and ongoing training and functional support to sustain day to day financial operations across accounting and project control functions.
Governance for the Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations implementation focused on role based access, stakeholder workshops, iterative configuration cycles, and operational handoffs to the ERP team. The program operated under ITAR and EAR constraints, requiring U.S. person staffing or appropriate trade licensing and access controls for positions responsible for application access and system configuration.
