In 2019 Avangrid implemented Sterling Background Check. The Sterling Background Check application, categorized as BackGround Screening, was deployed within HR Shared Services based in Orange, Connecticut to standardize candidate screening across thirteen operating companies. The rollout focused on screening workflows for DOT regulated and non DOT regulated hires, covering both union and non union positions and supporting administrators, recruiters and HR business partners.
Administrators used Sterling One Talent Solutions to order background screenings, compliance documents and onboarding paperwork, and to support I 9 verifications and E Verify processes. The implementation operated alongside ATS SuccessFactors to generate employee numbers and close requisitions, and alongside HRIS SAP to verify position vacancy, job descriptions and personnel numbers. Day to day case management incorporated Outlook and telephone communications with candidates, hiring managers, EHS, HRBPs, clinics, organizational management and recruiters.
Governance included centralized eligibility determinations with the Director, weekly status reporting to multiple stakeholder groups, and creation of procedural documentation and training materials for employees and consultants. Operationally the Sterling Background Check workflows were used to compile new hire packages for SAP profile creation and file storage. The HR Shared Services team processed 900 external hires in 2020 using the implemented screening and onboarding processes.
