| SAP | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | SAP S/4HANA Cloud | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2024 | 2024 |
In 2024 BayWa implemented SAP S/4HANA Cloud as its ERP Financial platform, migrating from SAP ERP ECC 6.0 to consolidate four business units into a single, process oriented ERP template. The migration was positioned as a company wide effort to move BayWa from siloed unit operations toward a unified template governed by standardized business processes.
The implementation emphasized standardizing non differentiating finance functions, with accounts payable, tax, and treasury operations called out as core, standardized capabilities representing the bulk of routine financial processes. BayWa adopted a clean core strategy, keeping SAP S/4HANA Cloud as the standard ERP Financial core and isolating BayWa specific extensions and innovations on a side by side digital platform.
Architecturally the deployment pairs SAP S/4HANA Cloud as the transactional ERP Financial backbone with SAP Business Technology Platform acting as the extension and integration layer. BayWa is using SAP BTP to host bespoke requirements and to pilot Business AI use cases, with a stated approach to embed AI into the applications and business processes where the data resides.
Governance and process transformation focused on enforcing a clean core, reducing over customization in standard finance processes, and converting the organization toward a process oriented operating model. Security and compliance were explicitly considered given BayWa's role in Germany's critical infrastructure, and the standardized approach was used to simplify training and speed onboarding across units.
Explicitly stated outcomes include a stabilized, standardized ERP Financial core that frees resources for innovation on SAP BTP, reduced training complexity and faster onboarding, and improved ability to adapt to new business models while maintaining security. BayWa’s setup positions SAP S/4HANA Cloud and SAP BTP together to sustain ongoing innovation and AI pilots without altering the standardized ERP Financial core.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2022 | 2023 |
In 2022 BayWa positioned SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central as its single source of truth for personnel master data under the My HR program, establishing SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Core HR to consolidate employee records and support HR Services and personnel master data governance. The Core HR deployment covers approximately 12,000 employees in BayWa AG and certain associated companies, providing each employee with visibility into their HR data and centralized master data for downstream consumers.
The SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central implementation followed best practice configuration to deliver core personnel master data management, mobile-ready employee and manager self-service via the My HR interface, and a modular foundation for further personnel development capabilities such as onboarding. SuccessFactors Employee Central was chosen for cloud-based flexibility and modularity, enabling expansion with additional HR modules while providing a contemporary, intuitive interface.
Architecturally the Cloud solution was integrated into BayWa's SAP landscape using the SAP Business Technology Platform to enable automatic, real-time data exchange with downstream systems, explicitly supplying accounting and time management with validated master data. The implementation accounted for interoperability with existing SAP HCM onPremise technology, reducing redundant data, minimizing transmission errors, and strengthening data protection controls across the HR data flow.
The program was procured through a tender and executed by novamusHR01 GmbH with technical project delivery by ABS Team GmbH, running from May 2020 to October 2021 and completed within the projected 18 month timeframe and budget. Governance and process changes emphasized standardized HR master data, an integrative system landscape to reduce complexity and ensure compliance, and BayWa reports that My HR delivers a modern, intuitive platform accessible from anywhere for employees and managers.
