In 2008, Benihana implemented Oracle E-Business Suite as an Oracle Release 12 deployment to support core ERP Financial operations across its corporate accounting organization and restaurant finance functions. The Oracle E-Business Suite deployment targeted ERP Financial functionality with an emphasis on General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Cash Management and Fixed Assets as primary led modules.
Configuration work included setup and testing of General Ledger processing and financial statement creation, Accounts Payable workflows and a Web AP Invoice custom interface, Cash Management reconciliation rules, Fixed Assets lifecycle management and periodic CapEx reporting. The implementation also incorporated iExpense and a custom End of Period Inventory module, trial balance account clean up prior to data conversion, and analytical review of converted data to validate period close and reporting outputs.
Integrations were explicitly mapped into the deployment, including POS to Oracle interface accounting mapping and Payroll to Oracle interface accounting mapping, aligning transactional feeds from restaurant sites and payroll systems into Oracle E-Business Suite. Operational coverage extended to accounting and finance teams across corporate departments and to restaurant personnel who were included in testing and training activities.
Governance components were built into the program, with updates to Sarbanes Oxley narratives, design of Oracle role capabilities to comply with SOX controls, and creation of business process flows documenting key controls for each module. Project execution included creation of test scripts, end to end testing of accounting mappings, troubleshooting via Oracle Metalink for functional and technical issues, development of training guides and delivery of webinars to accounting and restaurant staff.
The program also captured continuous process work that leveraged Oracle E-Business Suite capabilities to improve and automate accounting processes, with the project team providing ongoing Oracle functional support. The implementation team provided guidance on complementary analytic and operational tooling, including lead involvement in implementing Cognos BI and advisory support for MenuLink integration.
