In 2019 Blendtec implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations to transition off Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, executing a planned ERP migration led by the company IT leadership. The project served as a companywide initiative under the IT organization, aligning finance and operations functions with an ERP Financial platform and coordinating infrastructure, security, and application teams for the cutover.
The Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations deployment focused on core financial management and operations workflows common to ERP Financial systems, including general ledger processes, accounts payable and receivable, and procurement and inventory orchestration. Configuration work emphasized integration readiness, leveraging existing EDI capabilities and web APIs to preserve transactional connections, while BI and CRM workflows were retained and aligned with the new application to support reporting and customer data flows.
The implementation was executed into a hybrid architecture, combining on-premises virtual infrastructure with cloud platforms, specifically Microsoft Azure and AWS, and ongoing VMware administration. Integrations connected Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations to the company Active Directory and O365 Exchange environment, on-prem SQL databases, EDI partners, and existing web API endpoints, with infrastructure changes including new production and lab networks, corporate VLANs, switches, firewalls, servers, and SQL instances.
Governance and operationalization included IT operations budget planning and execution, creation of maintenance windows and IT-Ops schedules, a hardware lifecycle refresh program, and establishment of backup and validated disaster recovery plans. The IT team also instituted a certification training program for senior administrators, managed vendor and SaaS relationships, and maintained company certificates and domain inventories as part of application and infrastructure governance.
As part of the broader program, Blendtec’s IT organization led a companywide work from home rollout during a time of crisis and reported implemented significant savings across multiple departments and vendor accounts. Operational outcomes explicitly noted include validated DR plans, increased teleworker productivity monitoring, and centralized management of servers, endpoints, and SQL databases alongside the Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations ERP Financial deployment.
