The Access Group Legacy Access Dimensions ERP Financial ERP Financial Management n/a 2014 2014
In 2014 Bloomsbury Publishing implemented Access Dimensions as its ERP Financial platform. The deployment marked a formal changeover from Vista to Access Dimensions and was executed through the London finance organization supporting the Academic division. The Access Dimensions implementation focused on core financial modules, including a project ledger, budgeting and cash variance analysis, automated journal routines, and analytic reporting. Configuration work created ’Live’ linked spreadsheets and monthly digital platform P and L reporting that were incorporated into the Access Dimensions project ledger, supporting budget and variance workflows and academic journal P and L consolidation. Operational scope covered management accounting for the Academic division, specifically Berg Publishers, Continuum, Bloomsbury Academic and Bloomsbury Information, and a centralization of the sales ledger function from subsidiary companies into Bloomsbury Plc. The project also handled integration of the AVA acquisition into Bloomsbury accounts while maintaining liaison with the former AVA owner on outstanding co edition contract matters. Governance and process changes included documented process manuals, year end audit support, and provision of scenario based financial analysis for executive approval of new digital platform proposals. The program explicitly streamlined processes by automating journals and analytic reporting, and centralized transactional finance operations within Access Dimensions, aligning the Company Access Dimensions ERP Financial system with consolidated reporting and project level P and L workflows.

Hitachi Vantara Legacy Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite Asset Performance Management ERP Services and Operations n/a 2020 2020
In 2020, Bloomsbury Publishing deployed Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite for Asset Performance Management to support data consolidation and controlled operational workflows tied to royalties and author records. The Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite was used alongside existing accounting processes to ingest and validate author and rights metadata during acquisition onboarding activities. Implementation work focused on integrating two newly acquired companies into Bloomsbury’s royalties environment, mapping data extracted from outgoing royalty systems, and executing parallel royalty runs to validate processing logic. Activities recorded against the implementation included data cleansing, preparation of authors and related metadata for loading into the accounting system, and entering new author records directly into Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite and KEA. Configuration and orchestration centered on author master data management and controlled reconciliation workflows, with FocalPoint configured to accept structured incoming feeds and support parallel validation cycles. Functional capabilities emphasized in the implementation included master data mapping, validation routines, and exception handling workflows consistent with Asset Performance Management class capabilities for asset and record integrity. Operational governance for the rollout established a single point of contact model for acquisition queries, ongoing investigation and resolution of issues discovered during parallel runs, and coordination between royalties, accounting, and acquisitions teams in the United Kingdom. The deployment documented role based data entry and reconciliation tasks in Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite, and maintained integration touchpoints with KEA and the accounting system to enable author and rights record propagation across operational systems.

IBM Legacy IBM Cognos Business Intelligence Analytics and BI Analytics and BI n/a 2013 2013
In 2013, Bloomsbury Publishing implemented IBM Cognos Business Intelligence as its enterprise reporting platform to centralize Group Finance reporting, aligning the deployment with the Analytics and BI category and the company finance function. The rollout replaced Crystal Reports for finance outputs and was positioned to provide a single reporting catalog, standardized financial dashboards, and scheduled operational reports for month-end processes. Configuration work focused on finance-oriented data modeling and metadata management within IBM Cognos Business Intelligence, with analytics artifacts constructed to support sales, cost of sales, inventory ledgers, project accounting, fixed assets, and procurement reporting. The implementation included development of finance report libraries, parameterized financial statements, and controlled distribution workflows, reflecting capabilities typical of enterprise Analytics and BI deployments. The Cognos deployment was integrated with Bloomsbury’s ERP landscapes as part of concurrent ERP upgrades across multiple countries, and it consumed consolidated P2P and procurement cost centre mappings defined through a cross-country Purchase-to-Pay mandate. Operational coverage emphasized Group Finance and related country finance teams, with the Finance-IT liaison role coordinating data feeds, user provisioning, and vendor renewals for finance applications. Governance and controls were formalized through proactive global finance systems user security models and training for project accounting and procurement users, ensuring data integrity during the transition from Crystal Reports to IBM Cognos Business Intelligence. Implementation activities included chart of accounts rationalization that reduced the global chart from 3000 to 500 entries and ongoing administration of third-party finance application agreements.
