In 2020 British Steel Pension Scheme deployed Linedata Icon as its Portfolio and Investment Management application to centralize fund accounting, trade support, and reporting workflows. The deployment was managed within the company IT operations function and used Linedata Icon to support core investment operations across the trustee-run pension fund.
Linedata Icon was operated on the organisation's virtualised infrastructure, with servers hosted on VMware ESXi vSphere 7.0 and managed for high availability, storage, and resource monitoring. Technical responsibility included desktop application delivery and patching via WSUS, Windows Server patching, and routine backups with periodic restore testing, ensuring the application environment and supporting services remained current and recoverable.
Integrations and operational coverage included direct support and operational interoperability with Bloomberg Terminal and Thomson Reuters Eikon for market data and trading desks, plus integration touchpoints to the broader IT stack such as Microsoft Exchange Server 2019 and Office 365 for communications and collaboration. The infrastructure team provided 1st, 2nd and 3rd line support for Linedata Icon and related financial applications, and worked closely with third party suppliers for networking, backup devices, remote access systems and vendor support escalations.
Governance and process changes emphasized continuous IT service provision, compliance with company policies, and formal disaster recovery procedure creation and testing for core infrastructure and services. Operational duties also covered license management, hardware and software procurement, and end user support up to CFO and CEO level, embedding Linedata Icon into the fund’s operational and support governance model.
