In 2015, CNN implemented Oracle PeopleSoft ERP as its ERP Financial application to centralize core financial processes for client groups and the Washington D.C. bureau, with operational emphasis on supporting technology and broadcast engineering teams. Oracle PeopleSoft ERP served as the principal financial ledger and transactional system for accounts payable, purchase order creation, capital and operational project accounting, and fixed asset tracking within CNN 27s finance operations.
Configuration centered on standard ERP Financial capabilities including accounts payable invoice processing, purchase order lifecycle management, general ledger and capital project accounting controls. The implementation was used to create both opex and capex purchase orders, track open POs, capture invoice actuals for monthly reporting, and support year-end close activities and accruals required for payments processed after fiscal close.
The deployment operated as part of a broader finance and operations ecosystem, with explicit integration from ARIBA feeding procurement and vendor updates into Oracle PeopleSoft ERP. Financial outputs from PeopleSoft were used to produce invoice actuals and purchase order summary reports consumed by Clarity PPM for monthly budgeting forecasts, while Service-Now was the system of record for asset tagging and delivery to reconcile fixed assets. Expense and contractor workflows were managed in parallel systems, with SAP Concur used for expense reports and SAP Fieldglass used to maintain independent contractor profiles aligned to PeopleSoft financial processes.
Operational governance emphasized vendor master controls, PO and invoice approval workflows, and coordination with finance leads to process project approval documents and modify build of materials according to internal standards. The finance team executed annual closeout procedures, reported required accruals, and coordinated capital project allocations across more than 100 projects totaling over $53 million, using Oracle PeopleSoft ERP as the financial control and reporting backbone.
