In 2010 Canadian Institute for Health Information implemented MicroStrategy ONE Analytics to support the CIHI eReporting Program within CIHI eReporting and EDW Services, focusing on Analytics and BI. The engagement centered on defining and designing reports and dashboards to convert existing reporting artifacts into a MicroStrategy reporting layer.
The implementation produced approximately 30 interactive reports and four dashboards using MicroStrategy version 9, and included assessment and analysis work such as feasibility studies for new requirements. Workstreams covered schema design and object modeling, with schema objects created including Attributes, Facts, Hierarchies, Tables and Transformations, and public objects created including Metrics, Prompts, Custom group definitions, Consolidations, Filters, Reports and Documents. MicroStrategy ONE Analytics was configured to support interactive reporting workflows and document-level dashboard delivery.
A key technical task was converting QuickStats and eNACRS reports that had been authored in Oracle Discoverer into MicroStrategy Reports and Dashboards on MicroStrategy version 9.1, aligning the MicroStrategy schema with EDW data models managed by CIHI EDW Services. The implementation therefore involved source-to-target report mapping, transformation logic capture, and reuse of EDW tables and hierarchies for consistent analytics.
Governance and rollout activities were handled through the CIHI eReporting and EDW Services program, with requirements analysis, report design approvals, and testing cycles documented as part of the delivery. The project established reusable public objects and standardized metric definitions to support consistent business reporting across CIHI reporting consumers.
