| SAP | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2024 | 2025 |
In 2024, Carlsberg Group began a Western European rollout of SAP S/4 HANA, a program positioned to address the company’s ERP Financial needs and replatform from SAP ERP ECC 6.0. The multiyear initiative is staffed with IBM as the system integrator and is framed within Carlsberg’s Accelerate SAIL strategy, signaling a coordinated effort to align technology, operations and culture across finance, procurement and supply chain functions. Project Elevate is cited as the delivery vehicle for the program, reflecting a consolidated programme governance model.
The SAP S/4 HANA implementation emphasizes core ERP Financial modules alongside integrated procurement and supply chain capabilities, with explicit configuration work to automate purchasing workflows, exception handling and approvals. Procurement automation is a stated priority, targeting catalogue ordering, document sharing and supplier onboarding processes, and the deployment of SAP S/4 HANA will include data consolidation and real-time transactional processing to reduce duplication and improve financial and operational visibility. The narrative indicates configuration for flexible workflows and automatic exception handling to cut manual tasks and speed approvals and payments.
Integrations are an explicit part of the build, Carlsberg will link SAP S/4 HANA with SAP Ariba to enable electronic supplier transactions and real-time updates via the Ariba Network. The integration supports catalogue ordering, supplier document exchange and onboarding, improving supplier collaboration and visibility on payments and orders. The implementation scope covers finance, procurement, manufacturing, sales and supply chain operations across Western European sites, reflecting a regionally scoped but cross-functional enterprise deployment.
Governance and rollout planning are described as business-led, with IBM positioned as a collaboration partner bringing industry accelerators and delivery experience, and Carlsberg emphasizing business ownership and cultural alignment. The programme is organized to bring multiple stakeholders together, focusing on coherent programme governance, alignment to strategic objectives under Accelerate SAIL and a phased delivery approach through Project Elevate. This approach is intended to embed process ownership in finance and procurement teams while centralizing delivery oversight with IBM and Carlsberg leadership.
Explicit outcomes called out by Carlsberg include streamlined procurement processes, fewer manual tasks, improved supplier collaboration and faster supplier onboarding, along with better use of data to reduce duplication and optimise inventory and production processes. The implementation is positioned to enhance traceability and quality control, improve financial and sales analytics through real-time data, and enable faster operational response in the fast-moving consumer goods context.

In 2023, Carlsberg Group implemented softfactors Applicant Tracking System for graduate and entry level recruiting within its Denmark and group HR operations. The softfactors Applicant Tracking System is deployed as an external recruiting and assessment platform, with Carlsberg job postings directing candidates into a candidate-facing softfactors application flow to capture screening and assessment data.
The implementation emphasizes applicant tracking and online assessment capabilities typical of the Applicant Tracking System category, including a structured candidate application flow, screening questionnaires, and automated capture of assessment artifacts linked to specific job requisitions. Configuration scope is concentrated on early career hiring workflows, aligning application forms and assessment steps to Talent Acquisition intake and HR screening processes.
Operational coverage is Denmark and group level HR and recruiting for graduate and entry level hires, with the solution positioned as an external assessment layer accessed via job posting links. Governance and process changes focused on standardizing candidate screening and assessment capture so Talent Acquisition can consistently collect assessment data through the softfactors application flow, while downstream recruitment decisions reference the captured assessment records.

| PTC | Legacy | PTC ThingWorx Asset Advisor | Asset Performance Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2019 | 2019 |
In 2019, Carlsberg Group implemented PTC ThingWorx Asset Advisor as an Asset Performance Management solution to standardize production data collection across its brewing facilities. Carlsberg had a full manufacturing execution system in 10 factories but sought a lighter, rapidly scalable approach to unify data collection and improve production performance, and Autoware served as the implementation partner to design and accelerate the initial deployment.
The deployment of PTC ThingWorx Asset Advisor focused on real time performance monitoring, operator dashboards, configurable alerting, plant benchmarking, and targeted capabilities for downtime tracking and preventive maintenance. Operators use tablet applications that surface line performance against targets, propose downtime reasons in real time, and enable confirmation of corrective actions, while aggregated production reporting and OEE monitoring provide a unified view of machine health and throughput.
A cloud based architecture was selected, with Kepware providing a uniform data model by collecting PLC and automation device signals and ThingWorx visualizing analytics and diagnostics centrally. Kepware enabled centrally configured device templates and import export of configuration information to accommodate site variances to the application data standards, and centralized deployment allowed application updates to be applied once and become immediately available to sites while supporting selective site specific feature rollouts. The initial program launched in three months and has been rolled out to 28 Carlsberg facilities with plans to extend to the remaining breweries.
Governance centered on standardizing data and metrics to enable objective benchmarking of machine performance across factories and to streamline operational workflows for production and maintenance teams. Autoware worked with Carlsberg to transfer operational skills during rapid site deployments, and stated outcomes include fewer line interruptions, reduced equipment downtime, improved operational procedures, reduced waste supporting sustainability goals, and a lower total cost of ownership compared with the on premise footprint previously used in other facilities.
