In 2018 Carvana implemented Oracle Cloud ERP as its enterprise financial platform, deploying a solution aligned to the ERP Financial category with Apolis as the implementation partner. The program targeted consolidation of financial processes into a single cloud application, and the engagement emphasized packaged implementations and Modern Best Practices to accelerate deployment timelines.
The implementation included Oracle Fusion Financials and Projects Foundation, plus explicit modules for Costing, Contracts and Billing. Financial reporting and ad hoc query standardization were delivered through Essbase cubes, and business processes for the entire life cycle of the car sale were mapped to accounting transactions, enabling drill down to sub ledgers and standardized reconciliation workflows.
Architecturally the deployment used a platform as a service integration layer, a unique PaaS integration built to Carvana requirements, and fully automated hybrid cloud integrations between the PaaS and SaaS environments. Single sign on was established across the PaaS solution to provide centralized user access, and the integrations provided real time access to Procurement, Inventory, Projects, Costing and Contracts business processes while supporting end to end tracking required for SOX compliance.
Operational scope centered on Finance and adjacent functions including Procurement and Inventory across multiple U.S. locations and growing hub footprints. Governance work included mapping and reengineering period end and year end processes, standardizing financial reports and automating sub ledger to general ledger reconciliation. Reported outcomes included a reduction in period end timelines from weeks to a few days and a licensing cost reduction from $1.1 million to $90,000.

In 2018, Carvana implemented Starlims Abbott eScreen to manage candidate and employee background checks and drug screening workflows. The Starlims Abbott eScreen deployment supported Carvana's BackGround Screening operations and was used by HR Background & Compliance and Employee Relations teams across Tempe and Scottsdale, Arizona, covering Market Ops candidate screening and supporting a population of more than 6,000 employees.
The implementation focused on core BackGround Screening capabilities including background screening orchestration, DOT and non-DOT drug screen ordering and results management, candidate intake and record management, and case tracking for compliance and investigative review. Configuration work included creation of intake pages and provisioned user accounts for HR members, role based access controls for investigators, and workflow routing to support concurrent case loads managed by HR Generalists.
Integrations were established with Workday for candidate and employee data synchronization, with ADP to reflect payroll and employment status flags, and with HireRight where parallel screening processes existed. Operational coverage extended across HR Generalists, Talent Development, Legal, Leaves and Benefits, Payroll, Workers Comp, and Response Team stakeholders, with the system used to surface screening results into broader HR and employee relations workflows.
Governance and rollout emphasized centralized intake and case assignment, account creation and hands on training for HR users, handbook updates and process documentation, and direct collaboration with Legal on investigation and corrective action workflows. The deployment integrated Starlims Abbott eScreen into existing HR processes and compliance controls while enabling HR to manage background and drug screening tasks alongside investigation and onboarding activities.

| Legacy | Google BigQuery | Data Warehouse | Analytics and BI | n/a | 2019 | 2019 |
In 2019, Carvana deployed Google BigQuery as its enterprise Data Warehouse to centralize large scale analytics and support data engineering workflows. The Google BigQuery implementation served as a centralized analytical store for structured and semi structured datasets and was positioned to support reporting, analytics, and downstream machine learning feature pipelines.
The implementation included ingestion and ELT pipelines, data modeling and curated analytics datasets, and operational SQL and NoSQL data wrangling. Engineers used SSDT and SQL for schema and table management, Python for transformation logic, Confluent Kafka for streaming ingestion, and Spark and Databricks to build and maintain robust, scalable data processing pipelines.
Integrations moved and shaped data between a mix of transactional and object stores including MS SQL Server 2019, AWS S3, Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Azure DataLake, Azure Blob, Cosmo DB, and Azure SQL DB. The architecture combined batch and streaming feeds, with BigQuery as a hub for analytical queries and downstream consumption by BI and data science functions.
Operational governance emphasized standardized pipeline development, schema management with SSDT, and notebook driven transformations in Databricks to enforce reproducible data flows. The rollout focused on embedding repeatable ETL and ELT patterns across data engineering and analytics teams, aligning ingestion, transformation, and analytical dataset delivery to support enterprise reporting and analytics.
