The Oracle Cerner Millennium Electronic Health Record instance was deployed to serve an acute care hospital within Cedars-Sinai Health System, operating alongside Epic installations used elsewhere in the system and providing Cerner exposure for clinician informaticists and fellows.
The implementation encompassed core Electronic Health Record capabilities common to enterprise EHRs, including inpatient and outpatient documentation, medication management and order entry, clinical decision support development, system build and configuration tools, results reporting, and reporting and analytics functionality. These modules were explicitly leveraged in fellowship rotations focused on workflow analysis, design and optimization, EHR usability, clinical decision support, system build, quality and performance assessment, and data analytics.
Operational coverage included one acute care hospital instance of Oracle Cerner Millennium with functional impact across clinical departments highlighted in the fellowship curriculum such as pharmacy informatics, pathology informatics, and research informatics. The Cerner environment provided data access and interoperability capabilities used by fellows and investigators for research projects, quality improvement work, and to serve as the informatics subject matter expert on PI led studies.
Governance and workforce development were central to the implementation narrative, with the Cerner deployment used as a teaching platform for experiential training in health system governance, change management, and facilitating ideal governance practices. Fellows rotated with more than 15 clinician informaticists, worked closely with senior CMIO leadership, and used the Oracle Cerner Millennium Electronic Health Record as a practical environment for clinical practice, build experience, and cross functional projects that align clinical operations, informatics, and research.
