UNIT4 Legacy Unit4 Business World ERP Financial ERP n/a 2012 2013
In 2012, Chesterfield Borough Council implemented Unit4 Business World as its ERP Financial platform. The deployment used the Agresso Central Government Enterprise Resource Planning foundation from UNIT4 as the technical stack for Unit4 Business World, and it was scoped to consolidate council finance processing and a planned shared services center model. Arvato was engaged to provide the ISSC1 shared services operation delivered on the Agresso platform. Unit4 Business World was configured to deliver core ERP Financial capabilities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, procurement orchestration and budgeting controls. Configuration work emphasized a flexible chart of accounts and multi‑fund accounting to support local government reporting and control, leveraging Agresso rule driven workflows and configurable ledgers to map to council processes. The implementation prioritized modular configuration and workflow automation common to ERP Financial deployments to reduce bespoke coding. The program was structured as a gradual migration that intended to replace the existing SAP platform, moving transactional finance and shared services onto Unit4 Business World and the Agresso platform. Operational coverage centered on the council finance function and the ISSC1 shared services center operated by Arvato, aligning BPO service delivery with the ERP stack to centralize routine transaction processing and vendor services. This integration model combined vendor‑operated shared services with on‑premise or hosted ERP infrastructure to separate operational execution from core application governance. Governance emphasized staged rollout, configuration governance and change control to enable rapid adaptation of business rules, a capability UNIT4 and implementation stakeholders highlighted as a key benefit. Anwen Robinson noted the platform's flexibility allows Arvato to make changes quickly and at relatively low cost in order to adapt the solution to changing business requirements. The program therefore combined Unit4 Business World ERP Financial functionality with outsourced shared services operations to align technology, process and service delivery.
