The portal was announced on November 30, 2022 and the system went live in January 2023 to support calendar-year renewals for city business tax filings.
The Avenu BizLicenseOnline implementation was configured to enable business owners to apply, renew, and pay business tax online, aligning application intake, renewal workflow automation, and payment capture within a single portal. Operational scope covered the City of Santa Barbara finance and business licensing functions, delivering a finance business-licensing and payment-processing deployment in California aimed at improving customer service and streamlining online payments and renewals. Administrative access and municipal staff controls were provisioned to manage accounts, review submissions, and maintain licensing records through the Avenu BizLicenseOnline administration console.
Rollout and governance followed a public announcement in late 2022 with a January 2023 go-live to coincide with calendar-year renewals, shifting renewal processes toward online self-service and centralized payment handling. The engagement focused on procedural changes within business licensing and finance operations to support online application, renewal, and payment workflows while preserving municipal oversight and recordkeeping.
