In 2017, Contour Products implemented StarShip as part of its Shipping Management stack to standardize shipping and fulfillment operations for its 50 person manufacturing business. The deployment used V-Technologies StarShip and was positioned to handle parcel and LTL processing alongside the companys order and ERP systems, with StarShip serving as the operational core for shipping orchestration.
StarShip was configured to provide standard Shipping Management capabilities including carrier selection and rating, label generation, manifesting, LTL tendering rules, and automated shipping workflows. Configuration work focused on mapping order data to shipping instructions, establishing rule-based carrier selection, and scheduling batch label prints and manifests for outbound shipments.
The implementation integrated StarShip with an EDI transaction manager and commerce hub, Shipping Easy, the Big Commerce e-commerce package, Worldwide Express LTL services, and SAGE 100ERP for order and inventory synchronization. Order flow was organized so that ecommerce orders from Big Commerce traverse the commerce hub and EDI manager into SAGE 100ERP and then into StarShip for routing to carriers and execution with Shipping Easy and Worldwide Express LTL for freight movements.
Operational governance included formalizing shipping queue procedures, EDI transaction mapping and exception handling, and carrier rule governance to control tendering to Worldwide Express LTL and other carriers. The program centralized Shipping Management processes within StarShip, establishing standard operating procedures for the shipping and operations teams and defining escalation paths for EDI and carrier exceptions.
