In 2018, Danville Metal Stamping implemented IFS Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to manage shop floor, engineering and quality operations. The deployment targeted manufacturing operations and document control across the Oakwood and Eastgate facilities, covering roles in inspection, MRB coordination, process control and administrative support.
The IFS Manufacturing Execution System implementation included configuration to create and manage tooling packages for invoicing, creation and revision of shop orders including original, updated and repair orders, and routing and product structure reviews and approvals. Functional capabilities implemented encompassed contract review and Preplanning Product Checklist reviews, uploading and maintaining new part families and customer prints, and completion workflows for Engineering Change Notifications, QADs, INCCIDs and RCCs.
Document control and process control capabilities were configured inside the Manufacturing Execution System, including creating and revising set up sheets, attaching set up sheets to routings, electronic data collection and analysis, APQP and PPAP support, PFMEA documentation, process certification workflows, Gage R and R procedures and creation and maintenance of inspection and process forms. The environment supported electronic submission of data and forms to various customer websites and routine use of Microsoft Office tools for interfacing with engineering and quality teams.
Governance and workflow restructuring emphasized formal approvals and version control, with routing and product structure approval gates, contract and PPPC approval workflows, managed ECN and customer change notification processes and MRB coordination procedures. Process control responsibilities were operationalized for both facilities, including data collection responsibilities, process certification and cross training to cover MRB and quality clinic duties, while day to day administrative activities such as tracking engineering attendance and procurement of engineering supplies were captured in system workflows.
