In 2019, DePaul University implemented Oracle Cloud ERP. The implementation of Oracle Cloud ERP, categorized as ERP Financial, was paired with adoption of Oracle HCM Cloud and an integration plan to connect with the university's existing Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions application.
The ERP Financial deployment focused on core financial modules including general ledger, accounts payable, procurement, budgeting and financial reporting, with configuration to support higher education chart of accounts and fund accounting patterns typical for universities. The parallel HCM Cloud work targeted core HR and payroll capabilities to align personnel costing with financial ledgers, and the program included plans to leverage embedded intelligence and AI capabilities in Oracle Cloud ERP to inform process automation and compliance.
Integration architecture emphasized co-existence with Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, enabling transactional and master data flows between student information and finance systems, and consolidating student billing, tuition revenue and auxiliary services into the central financial ledger. Operational scope covered finance, human resources, student accounts and procurement functions across the university, with cloud-native deployment of Oracle Cloud ERP to centralize financial processes.
Governance and process changes were framed around adopting best practices for business processes, centralized financial controls and data governance to support sustainability goals. DePaul leadership described the initiative as a modernization of business operations and highlighted being the first institution using Oracle's PeopleSoft solution to migrate to cloud in the Chicagoland area.

In 2019, DePaul University implemented Oracle Cloud HCM to address Core HR requirements as part of a coordinated move to Oracle ERP Cloud and HCM Cloud. The initiative was driven by a desire to adopt best practices for business processes and to leverage new capabilities such as AI and embedded intelligence to drive better efficiency and sustainability.
Oracle Cloud HCM was configured to centralize core HR functions and align them with higher education workflows. Implementations focused on employee data management, position control, workforce administration and talent management, with configuration workstreams to map university HR policies into the Oracle Cloud HCM security model and business rules.
The deployment replaced Oracle PeopleSoft HCM and was integrated with the existing Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions application, creating a coexistence architecture where student records and campus administrative systems remained on Campus Solutions while HR and finance modules moved to cloud. Integration patterns emphasized data synchronization, identity provisioning and transactional interfaces between Oracle Cloud HCM, Oracle ERP Cloud and PeopleSoft Campus Solutions to maintain payroll and student employment continuity.
Governance emphasized centralized process standardization and phased rollout across administrative departments, with executive sponsorship from Information Services. As Bob McCormick, vice president for Information Services, noted, DePaul was the first institution using Oracle’s PeopleSoft solution to migrate to cloud in the Chicagoland area, and the program prioritized embedding best practice workflows alongside new AI capabilities.
