In 2012, DHU Healthcare implemented Mitel Phone System as its core PBX, VoiP and Phone Systems platform. The Mitel Phone System established a centralized telephony backbone to support NHS 111 call handling and corporate voice services across DHU Healthcare, positioning the application as the primary telephony infrastructure for the organisation.
The deployment encompassed standard PBX and VoIP capabilities consistent with the PBX, VoiP and Phone Systems category, including call routing and queuing for a staffed call centre, agent desktop telephony for NHS 111 operators, voicemail and receptionist console functionality, and SIP based VoIP connectivity to staff handsets. Configuration and handset provisioning workflows were implemented to support desk phones and IP handsets, and the system was configured to enable remote worker telephony for community based staff.
Operational support and rollout activities continued into the Covid period, with an IT Desktop and Field Engineer supporting desktop configuration of the NHS 111 Call Centre and performing build and deployment of laptops and Mitel Phones to community based staff and homeworkers from DHU Healthcare Head Office in Derby during 2020 to 2021. Governance emphasis was placed on device provisioning and field deployment procedures, with on site configuration and remote onboarding workflows used to extend telephony to distributed teams and homeworkers as part of the pandemic response.
