| SAP | Infor Baan ERP | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2022 | 2022 |
In 2022, DMG Mori Co. implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its global business backbone for ERP Financial, replacing the Infor Baan ERP platform as part of the GLOBE Global One Business Excellence program. The program began with a two year analysis and platform selection phase, and was organized into sub-projects to manage scope across the company as it expanded from a machine builder toward a solutions provider in the manufacturing environment.
The SAP S/4 HANA deployment centers on core applications for finance, sales and materials management, with explicit configuration to converge the company value chain in a single template. Complementary components are implemented as part of the architecture, including procurement via ARIBA, planning with IBP, logistics with eWM, production scheduling and detailed planning using PP/DS, and export control through GTS. The group keeps proprietary functionality where it differentiates, integrating its own ISTOS solution for plant production, and targeting less than 30 percent custom contribution to the plant template and less than a fifth for sales and service company templates.
Operational rollout was staged, with finance and controlling of two holding companies moved to SAP S/4 HANA in 2020, and a factory template go live for two Bielefeld plants on January 17, 2022, covering almost 400 employees. The program plans further rollout to sales companies and a new plant in China scheduled to run entirely on the new SAP platform at the start of 2023. DMG Mori Co. is building internal skills and capacity to sustain the SAP S/4 HANA platform and to operate the ERP Financial environment across locations.
Governance and hypercare procedures were formalized, the project operating with a roughly 300 person cross functional project team during a nearly three month hypercare phase focused on stabilizing operations and resolving process blockages. Nightly communications to all SAP users provide incident numbers, resolution velocity and active ticket status, departmental contact persons support end users, and key operational indicators such as sales orders, logistics transactions, production output and daily user counts are recorded from day one. The program emphasizes strict change discipline, process aligned data structures and high data quality to preserve end to end process integrity across the SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial backbone.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP IBP | Advanced Planning and Scheduling | SCM | n/a | 2022 | 2022 |
In 2022, DMG Mori Co. deployed SAP IBP as its Advanced Planning and Scheduling solution within a broader SAP S/4HANA program known as GLOBE, replacing a longstanding Baan ERP system to consolidate the value chain and support a shift from pure machine building toward solution provision. The implementation was positioned as a global business backbone project, with the company setting SAP S/4HANA as the central platform for finance, sales, and materials management to enable standardized end to end processes across sites.
The SAP IBP implementation sits alongside a modular SAP architecture, where core applications for finance, sales, and materials management form the center, procurement is handled via ARIBA, logistics via eWM, production planning via PP DS, and export control via GTS. DMG Mori connected its own ISTOS solution for plant production to the SAP landscape, and the company used factory and sales templates to enforce standard software usage, limiting in house extensions to under 30 percent for works templates and under 20 percent for sales and service templates.
Operational rollout followed a staged approach, with finance and controlling for two holding companies moved to the new SAP software in 2020, and the factory template activated in two Bielefeld plants on January 17, 2022 covering almost 400 employees. A nearly three month hypercare phase engaged a 300 person cross functional project team and external partners to stabilize operations, resolve errors, and limit changes during the immediate post go live period while collecting runtime data for iterative improvements.
Governance and adoption were formalized through nightly incident communications to all SAP users, designated departmental contacts to support business users, and continuous capture of key operational indicators such as number of sales orders, logistics transactions, production output, and daily users. The program roadmap includes adapting the IT organization, rolling templates to additional locations, building internal skills, and commissioning a new plant in China to run on the SAP S/4HANA platform in early 2023, with SAP IBP retained as the planning component within the Advanced Planning and Scheduling layer.
