| Lacima | Legacy | Lacima Analytics | ETRM, CTRM | TRM | n/a | 2023 | 2023 | In 2023 ECOM implemented Lacima Analytics to deliver Value-at-Risk reporting across its portfolio of physical and financial contracts in soft commodities, including cotton, cocoa and coffee, using the ETRM,CTRM application category as the functional framework. The program addressed a specific need to automate risk measurement and reporting while providing a consistent market risk view for a merchant supply chain manager operating across multiple trading venues and commodity origins. The deployment focused initially on Lacima Analytics for Value-at-Risk, configuring valuation models for physically backed contracts alongside hedging positions, and embedding stress testing capability to assess basis risk that is intrinsic to commodity merchandising. Phase One delivered model configuration and VaR reporting, and Phase Two extended the implementation to automate daily risk reporting processes so calculations and report generation run as an overnight process. The implementation covered valuation and risk measurement workflows for portfolios that trade in many different markets, aligning model outputs with ECOMs risk governance and stakeholder reporting requirements across trading, risk management and executive reporting functions. Lacima was selected through an extensive RFP process on the basis of quantitative valuation expertise and market risk reporting capabilities, and Lacima Analytics was configured to produce consistent daily risk metrics for global operations spanning ECOMs merchant footprint. Governance and rollout were staged, with the first phase completed within six months and a subsequent phase to operationalize automation and distribution of reports. As an outcome ECOM achieved consistent and more accurate quantification of market risks in soft commodity contracts, including basis risk stress testing, and the automated overnight reporting process has saved countless man hours each day in preparing, checking and disseminating risk reports to stakeholder groups. | |
