In 2020, Exelixis, Inc. deployed Veeva CRM to centralize Field Medical and Medical Science Liaison operations across commercial and development portfolios. The deployment targeted MSL program management and field operations oversight, supporting regional MSL teams of approximately six to eight reports and providing a single source for MSL activity planning, tracking, and leadership reporting. Exelixis, Inc. Veeva CRM CRM supports Medical Science Liaison and Field Medical Affairs business functions.
Configuration focused on functional modules for MSL project lifecycle management, activity capture and field insights, executive dashboards and reporting, records retention and content storage, and operational workflows for congress planning and budget tracking. The implementation included configuration of dashboards for senior leadership to monitor MSL team metrics and HCP insights, standardized templates for field direction memos, and operational workflows for initiating and following up on expenses and purchase orders. Veeva CRM was used as the central system of record for MSL deliverables while SOPs and work instructions were developed to align system usage with program processes.
Integrations and operational coverage reflect explicit links to the IST electronic portal and BOX, with the Veeva CRM instance used alongside those systems to track study status and to centralize records and content for the MSL organization. The MSL Operations Director role served as the operational lead and program manager for the Veeva CRM rollout, coordinating vendor management, cross-functional collaboration with IST, and alignment of the CRM data model with clinical study priorities. The deployment covered field medical affairs operations across assigned regions and interfaced with Compliance and Legal for Sunshine Act reporting and MSL monitoring requirements.
Governance and process transformation were implemented through assignment of a Records Management Lead for the MSL team, formalization of SOPs and work instructions, and establishment of reporting cadences to the VP of MSLs. The program management approach emphasized operationalizing MSL initiatives, timeline management, and continuous evaluation of processing improvements to sustain CRM data quality and operational continuity.
