Microsoft Legacy Microsoft Power BI Analytics and BI Analytics and BI n/a 2015 2018
In 2015, Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas implemented Microsoft Power BI for Analytics and BI to support enterprise reporting from its EDW and ODS data stores. The engagement included development of logical and physical data models, business rules and detailed data mapping for the Enterprise Data Warehouse system. Microsoft Power BI was used to create analytical dashboards and interactive visualizations that depicted critical KPIs including Trade, Advances and Loan Types, with slicers and dicers for user driven filtering. The implementation worked alongside Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services and Report Builder to support cascading analytics reports, ad hoc reports, parameterized reports, drill down and drill through workflows. The technical stack included Microsoft SQL Server 2012, SQL Server Management Studio, Visual Studio report projects and SSRS report server deployments, with a Power BI gateway used to keep dashboards and reports up to date with on premise data sources. Data intensive Power BI dashboards were published to a SharePoint team site and report artifacts were deployed to the report server to meet business distribution and archival requirements. Operational responsibilities covered the full report lifecycle, including authoring, managing security, report generation, unit and regression testing, and scripting for report and data validation. Teams produced Technical Design Documents, business use cases and data mapping deliverables, and validated reporting outputs against the ODS staging environment and EDW while supporting production data quality issue resolution and research requests. Governance and sustainment included creation of functional and technical documentation to standardize SSRS data model projects and Report Builder models, enabling ad hoc reporting by business users. Operational processes incorporated Control-M workload automation for scheduling and Excel for ad hoc analysis, aligning Analytics and BI outputs with business consumers.
